Gully Sucking & Jet Vac Services FAQs
What is gully sucking?
Gully sucking (also called gully emptying or gully cleansing) uses a powerful vacuum tanker to remove silt, water, and debris from road gullies, drainage sumps, and catchpits. It prevents blockages that lead to surface water flooding.
What is the difference between gully sucking and jet vac?
Gully sucking uses suction alone to empty a gully pot.Â
A jet vac unit adds high-pressure water jetting to break up compacted blockages before vacuuming them away, making it more effective for heavily silted or blocked drainage systems and pipework.
How often should gullies be emptied?
Most highway gullies are emptied one to two times per year, but high-risk locations, near trees, in flood-prone areas, or on busy roads, may need more frequent maintenance. We can advise on the right programme for your site.
Do you cover emergency callouts?
Yes. RJC Plant Services offers emergency gully sucking and jet vac response across Yorkshire when flooding or critical blockages occur.
Are you licensed to dispose of gully waste?
Yes. We are fully registered waste carriers and dispose of all gully arisings at licensed facilities in full compliance with Environment Agency requirements.
