Local authorities and parish councils face ongoing pressure to keep public spaces safe, clean, and accessible, all while working within tight budgets and responding to rising public expectations. From routine highway maintenance to urgent emergency responses, councils need contractors they can rely on to deliver quickly, safely, and efficiently.
Whether it’s clearing roadside waste, maintaining highways, or responding to unforeseen incidents such as flooding or storm damage, having access to the right plant and experienced operators can make a critical difference.
That’s where RJC Plant Services comes in.
Supporting Councils Across Yorkshire
We work closely with local authorities across Yorkshire, providing professional grab hire and road sweeper services that support day-to-day operations as well as reactive and emergency works. Our services are designed to help councils:
- Maintain clean and safe highways and public areas
- Respond quickly to incidents and weather-related damage
- Reduce operational downtime and internal resource strain
- Control costs through efficient, flexible plant hire
Our modern fleet and experienced operators enable councils to scale support up or down as required — without the long-term cost of owning and maintaining specialist vehicles.
Proven Experience With Local Authorities
We have a long-standing track record of working alongside councils such as Leeds City Council and York City Council, providing dependable support that integrates seamlessly with in-house teams.
Because we understand how local authority operations work, we prioritise clear communication, fast mobilisation, and compliance with all relevant safety and environmental standards.
Case Study: Emergency Flood Response With North Yorkshire Council
One example of a successful partnership was our work with NY Highways and North Yorkshire Council’s Area 7 highways team following severe storm conditions.
After intense rainfall caused flooding and debris buildup on two critical roads, our team was mobilised rapidly to support the clean-up operation and minimise disruption to the public.
Over a two-day emergency response:
- 6 grab lorries cleared 17 loads of debris
- 6 road sweepers cleared 24 loads
- 12 vehicles operated simultaneously on site
- A total of 438 tonnes of waste was removed
Thanks to the coordinated effort between our teams and the council’s highways department, both roads were reopened as quickly as possible, significantly reducing disruption to motorists and local communities.
